We are beginning our ascent to Alaska!

This is officially the beginning of our trip to Alaska! We are currently in Coburg, Oregon and just finished servicing our motor home at the factory. We planned this service appointment in an effort to make sure the coach was fully 'road worthy' of the upcoming trip.

The weather in Oregon has been cold, rainy, and raw. We had snow yesterday! Maybe this is all in preparation for the weather we may encounter up north.

While we have been in Oregon we have been shopping for our Alaska gear-binoculars (one pair of Swarovoski 10 x 42 and one pair of Bushnell Elite E2 10 x 42). We bought 2 pair since we don't share well! We also bought a Nikon spotting scope (82mm) and a Nikon SLR camera (D80). This all came after months of research and scanning every forum and article online that I could find. It was actually a relief to buy everything-now I can get my head out of the computer and start using them all!

I still need to learn about Digiscoping (using an adapter between the camera and the scope so that I can take pictures through the scope). Also need to figure out which tripod to buy..it's amazing how many different styles and designs there are. More research involved here.

Okay, I know my journals generally last too long. If I'm going to continue to write to this blog on a regular basis, I better make it short.

I will fill you in on our progress as we move northward...

Please feel free to contact us and also check out additional pictures at patriot.smugmug.com

We look forward to hearing from you all....
